I went to look at fancy office furniture with free designers who are good with tape measures.
I will honest. This is the prevailing style, but I am not crazy about it.
It would probably cost me $40,000 to furnish my office like this. Fuck that noise. As Oppo is my witness, I will V12 swap the Cressida before I spend that kind of money on office furniture.
Plan B? I found a lovely wooden desk for myself for under $1500. I will furnish my office around that. Then I will replace the old, shitty cheap desks as they break. There are places in LA that sell shit from defunct offices. I bet there is a lot of furniture from people who passed away $40, 000 on decorating.
The guy who blows money on old Japanese luxury sedans owned by rural tweekers thinks that furniture is a terrible investment.
I bet Office Max has some decent workstations that are affordable.

Some of that stuff looks pretty nice, but as with all furniture, you can probably save a ton buying used.

Good. Anyone who would willfully buy half-height cubicles, partitioned desks, or anything remotely open planned deserves a swift kick in the dick.
I especially love the fuck you that is the shelf in the forth picture. “Here’s a shelf, like you’d have if you had an actual wall, but now it’s low, so you have less usable desk space. Why? Fuck you. That’s why.”

Jesus man! I guess office furniture and professional toolboxes have a lot in common. Can they make you more productive? Yes? Do they cost WAYYYY too much for not actually doing anything? Fuck yes.
$40,000 for some particle wood
or
$30,000 for some sheet metal.

I wish you were closer we have three complete 6-foot cubes with desks sitting in our garage at work. Probably $10k in parts. Pretty much this assemblyyou have pictured.

My employer spends fortunes on stupid shit and decoration for the front of the office, yet we don’t have enough desks for everyone. Thank you for not doing that to your empl
oyees.

I found something for the break room. I’m not sure where you’d buy it though.
The price of new office furniture is absolutely ridiculous. Even second hand it’s far too expensive given the cheap materials most are made from. Good luck to you in your search.

Exactly this. I’ve done office furniture shopping three times now. The first time was somebody else’s money, we went crazy, dropped about 20 0k for 25 people . Second time, my money, got used furniture cheap , plus a couple pieces from a friend’s downsizing insurance office for nothing, spent about 3k total for 8 people . Third time, replaced the furniture from the second time plus added for an expansion , with some minimalist, new age height adjustable powered desks, back up to about 40k for 20 people .
Most of that furniture from the first go around didn’t even get sold. The company imploded, and the office leasing company seized the furniture, then rented the plac e furnished.

I got my glorious solid wood desk at a second hand furniture place just down the street in Gardenia for like, $300. Most of the furniture at my company came from that place. It’s nice because you can find well built older stuff. It’s not nice if you want everything to match. Plus, I think I had to go back twice to find something I liked. But I’m sure there are hundreds of similar stores.

Ahhh I’m doing this at work. I can recite product lines from memory. We’re at $700-1000 a seat, easily. Classroom furniture.

I loved the desk chair I bought from a used office furniture store. It was originally $600 but I got it for $50. It had scrapes and scratches but it was solid and comfortable.

They got fancy new cubes at my old company when we moved to the new office, but my desk was left by a dumpster two offices ago. Old wooden teachers desk. It wasn’t my favorite, but it worked.

We had two containers of spare furniture, at our office, but they were flooded during Harvey and everything was destroyed.

Just gonna leave that there.
My RIDICULOUSLY GIGANTIC height adjustable, custom configured desk came from Ikea Business. It’s the GALANT corner. With many extensions. It was $600. And i t is most definitely not “insert tab A into slot B.”
I think the current equivalent is the Bekant?

Wait for the next recession (shouldn’t be long) and buy the furniture from a nearby bank that goes under. The ones that die first have usually wasted money on the latest office decor. I did this during the last recession. The interns running the place ended up just loding me up with a bunch of extra shit I didn’t buy.

Man do I hate half cubes. Give me full cube or give me death. I DON’T WANT TO SEE THE SUN OR MY NEIGHBOR’S FACE, EVER.

I actually prefer large communal tables. I hat e tall cube walls. It feels so isolating and dreary. I just need a tiny cabinet under the table. Give me two monitors on arms and a dock and we’re good. Maybe throw in a wireless charger embedded into the desk for every spot and I’ll be thrilled.

Maybe for an office full of peasants.. I’m talking PROFESSIONALS. Where are my angles? Where is my wrought iron ? You call this a fixture?

Cubicles suck, but they suck less than an open office.
Our company leases the furniture to take advantage of the tax deductions.

The used furniture places are where it’s at. That’s all we use to outfit our offices. So much less expensive.

What designers/furniture was this? I’m in Industrial Design, and I’m definitely not a fan of any of this. I would look into Steelcase and Allsteel products.
